As most of you all know by now, when someone at Granddad Jack’s reaches their one year anniversary, they get to create their very own release. From the botanicals, to the label, production and the cocktails, the release is entirely their own. 

If you’ve visited the Gold Coast distillery, or seen any of our social media, we usually rope this guy in for the camera, but he is also the first face most of you see at the bar. Dylan Jenkinson, known by all of us as “Jenko”, is the bar supervisor. A true character, and all round legend. For the past year, he’s become an integral part of the team, both as a mixologist and our in-house fridgey! Up-for-anything, including a good laugh, and a real go getter. But he’s more than once earnt himself the reputation of being the worst person to order… anything… so much so that at one point last week when three 15kg boxes of oranges were ordered instead of 3kgs, we contemplated selling “Jenko’s Freshly Juiced Orange Juice” from the bar this week alongside his release… Turns out he is also pretty innovative as he found a way to use them all up and we carried on with the original plan of releasing GG’s Rhubarb and Custard by itself haha!

It's our pleasure to introduce this special release, which he crafted in honour of his Great-Grandmother GG. This release brings back the fond memories of his childhood. He’s worked incredibly hard with Mica and Luke to make this release epic, and we are stoked to be able to finally share it with you! 

Introducing, GG’s Rhubarb & Custard Liqueur as Jenko’s Staff Release.

When my brother and I were younger, we’d go to our Great-Grandmother’s house, where she would make us homemade rhubarb and custard using homegrown rhubarb. There were always a few guarantees when visiting GG.

The first guarantee was this homemade dessert. The second guarantee was that we would be told many stories from back in the day, followed by a warning to “Watch out for the dragon underneath the house, because he’s hungry and eats kids.”

The last, but certainly not least, guarantee was that you would always find her enjoying a cigarette and a glass of wine, even up until the ripe age of 91! Cheers to you, GG, and thank you for the inspiration towards my staff release. x

Nose:
Sweet custard and tart rhubarb notes with a hint of fresh apple.

Palate: Mouth coating sweet creamy vanilla custard with a caramelised stringy rhubarb long lasting flavour.

Ingredients: Rhubarb, Custard, Apple, Rooibos Tea

Serving Suggestion: On the rocks, with custard or in a spider with vanilla ice cream and ginger beer.
